Stiff and painful hips
|
Many yoga postures involve the knees and hips rotating outwards and that can appear to be impossible if your legs and their tendons have started to contract but one very easy and comfortable way of starting to ease into these positions is as follows:- (with thanks to some of the members of North Cheshire Branch of MS Society)
Lie with both your feet up on a chair with your knees over your hips and the feet resting against the backrest. (1)
Slide one foot towards the front of the seat and allow the knee to relax outwards (you will be surprised just how comfortable this is)
Just relax here for a few minutes making no attempt to make your leg go anywhere it doesn't want to.
Repeat to the other side
As your hips and knees become more co-operative you can do this with both legs at once - my members love this and demand to be left alone to enjoy it ......"forget the rest of the class - we are happy here" !!!
